Cameron, Niv, Ben cilantro May 16

Today we did not measure the pH, nitrates, or phosphates levels, as the class has ran out of testing materials. From looking at the plant, we saw that some leaves were drying out and turning brown. This was likely from a lack of water, so we added some more. We also noticed that the pump was not working properly, which we fixed simply by unplugging it and then plugging it back in. Overall, the plant is still living, although still facing some challenges water-wise.

  2. Do you know why the pump stopped working? How are you going to prevent it from breaking in the future?

  3. That's quite unfortunate that the pump stopped working! Do you think that the plant is starting to wilt more due to the lack of water or amount of nutrients given? It seems as if the biotic factor is having some trouble. But either way, I think your plant really helped all of us understand the need of water AND nutrients for a plant to grow tall and green!

  4. Did you figure out what happened to the pump? It is great that you were able to find and solve the problem. However, finding out what happened to the pump in the first place could prevent future problems.

  5. Did adding more water stop the plants leaves from wilting/turning brown?

  7. The reason that the plants may be looking brown and unhealthy is because it may not have enough water, which is what you guys were saying, it might not have enough nitrogen which helps give the plants the nice green color and make it healthier, and it might be growing a bit too close to the light. I recommend that you try fixing this and see if one of these were the causes along with the lack of water.

  8. Our plant went through similar struggles. Try moving the water distributor closer to the plants area so that water can spread out equally and supply the plants.

  9. I'm so sorry your plant is looking not in its best state. Glad you got your water pump is working again! Hope water issues with your plant do not occur again. Our group has had the same exact problems yours is having. Maybe adding extra nutrients will also help.
